Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports PBIS

Sonoran Trails believes in preparing the whole student for success in school and in life. This includes not only academics, but appropriate behavior as well. To this end, Sonoran Trails is a PBIS School. PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support. This set of procedures is designed to teach appropriate behavior at the lowest possible level (classroom) without the need for more intense discipline measures.

Teachers and staff are asked to intervene with students displaying unacceptable behavior that disrupts the learning environment two to three times and make parent contact before a formal office referral is written. This insures that, by the time the office is aware of the issues, they are serious enough to require intervention at this level.

Additionally, PBIS has in place positive incentives and recognitions for students who consistently do the right thing. We have the STAR program where students are acknowledged on the announcements and with a certificate on a daily basis and we also hold school wide assemblies to celebrate our students' increasing success. Please join us in helping teach our young people all of the academics, but the behavioral parts of being a good citizen as well.

As a part of PBIS, we celebrate and do fun "things" with our kids. Every Friday, we have a school theme day. We will share these days with our students during announcements, but you can also find them in the newsletter. Please encourage your child to participate. We can still have fun while learning. Go Stingers!
